Weight Loss Is Not Always as Simple as Eating Less
Weight is influenced by a combination of factors, including appetite, nutrition, activity, sleep, medications, health history, hormones, and metabolic health. That is why repeated dieting or trying to “push through” hunger does not always lead to sustainable progress.
Skinny Shot is Innovative Medical Center’s medically guided weight-loss program. Rather than offering the same plan to everyone, we start by looking at your health, previous weight-loss efforts, current challenges, and goals. For appropriate patients, prescription weight-management injections, including GLP-1-based options, may be considered as one part of the program.
Medical Guidance From the Start
Prescription weight-loss medication is not appropriate for everyone, and medication alone is not the entire plan. Your provider will review your health history, current medications, weight-related concerns, previous attempts to lose weight, and other relevant clinical information before recommending treatment.
If medication is appropriate, your provider will explain the specific medication being considered, how it works, potential benefits and side effects, dosing and monitoring requirements, and what role nutrition, activity, and other lifestyle factors should play alongside treatment. Your progress is monitored so the plan can be adjusted based on how you respond.
Looking at the Factors That May Be Affecting Your Weight
Two people can struggle with weight for very different reasons. Medical weight management gives us an opportunity to look beyond the scale and consider other factors that may be relevant to your progress.
Depending on your symptoms and health history, your evaluation may also lead to a closer look at:
- Hormone Imbalance – hormonal changes can sometimes affect appetite, body composition, energy, or how a patient feels
- Perimenopause & Menopause – changes during the menopause transition may coincide with shifts in body composition, sleep, activity, and weight
- Low Testosterone – men with symptoms suggestive of testosterone deficiency may benefit from a separate hormone evaluation
- Fatigue & Low Energy – persistent fatigue can make activity and healthy routines more difficult and may have multiple underlying causes
- Hormone Therapy – when symptoms and clinical findings suggest hormones should be evaluated separately
- Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy – an additional treatment area for appropriately selected patients with specific hormone-related concerns
Weight-loss medication does not treat all of these conditions. These are related health concerns that may warrant separate evaluation when relevant to the individual patient.
Frequently Asked Questions About Skinny Shot Weight Loss
What is the Skinny Shot weight-loss program?
Skinny Shot is Innovative Medical Center’s medically guided weight-management program.
The program begins with an evaluation to determine what may be appropriate for you. Depending on your health history, goals, and provider recommendations, prescription weight-management medication may be considered along with medical monitoring and guidance related to sustainable lifestyle changes.
Is Skinny Shot a specific medication?
No. “Skinny Shot” is the name of Innovative Medical Center’s weight-loss program, not the name of a specific prescription drug.
If medication is recommended, your provider will identify the exact medication and formulation being considered and explain its regulatory status, intended use, benefits, risks, and alternatives.
Does Skinny Shot include GLP-1 medication?
For appropriate candidates, GLP-1-based weight-management medications may be incorporated into the Skinny Shot program.
GLP-1 medications affect systems involved in appetite, fullness, digestion, and blood sugar regulation. Different medications have different FDA-approved indications, dosing schedules, contraindications, and safety considerations.
How do GLP-1 weight-loss medications work?
GLP-1-based medications act on pathways involved in appetite and digestion. Depending on the specific medication, they can help reduce appetite, increase feelings of fullness, and influence how quickly the stomach empties.
They are intended to be used as part of a broader weight-management approach rather than as a substitute for nutrition, physical activity, and ongoing medical care. FDA-approved weight-management GLP-1 medications are specifically approved as adjuncts to reduced-calorie eating and increased physical activity.
Who may be a candidate for prescription weight-loss medication?
Eligibility depends on the specific medication, your BMI, weight-related health conditions, medical history, current medications, and other risk factors.
For example, several FDA-approved chronic weight-management medications are indicated for adults with obesity, generally defined as a BMI of 30 or greater, or adults with a BMI of 27 or greater who also have at least one weight-related health condition. Exact eligibility varies by medication.
Your provider will determine whether medication is appropriate for you rather than relying on BMI alone.
Do I need to have diabetes to use a GLP-1 medication for weight loss?
No. Certain GLP-1-based medications are specifically FDA approved for chronic weight management in eligible people without diabetes.
Other GLP-1 medications are approved for different indications, including treatment of type 2 diabetes. The specific drug and reason it is prescribed matter, which is why your provider should clearly identify the medication being recommended.
Is Skinny Shot FDA approved?
Skinny Shot is the name of IMC’s medical weight-loss program, so the program itself is not something that receives FDA approval.
FDA approval applies to specific medications for specific indications. If medication is recommended as part of your program, our team will explain exactly what is being prescribed and whether that particular product is FDA approved or has a different regulatory status.
Are compounded GLP-1 medications FDA approved?
No. Compounded medications are not FDA approved.
FDA-approved medications undergo agency review for safety, effectiveness, and quality before marketing. Compounded versions do not undergo that same premarket review. FDA has also issued specific warnings regarding quality, dosing, and fraudulent products involving compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide.
If a compounded medication is ever being considered, patients should be told clearly what they are receiving and why.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
There is no amount of weight loss that can be promised for every patient.
Results depend on the specific treatment, starting weight, health history, nutrition, activity, adherence, treatment duration, and individual response. Clinical trial results for a particular medication describe averages within studied populations and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of an individual result.
How many spinal decompression treatments will I need?
There is no single treatment schedule that applies to every patient.
The recommended frequency and length of care depend on your condition, how long symptoms have been present, examination findings, treatment goals, and how you respond to care. Your team will explain the recommended plan and monitor your progress throughout treatment.Your provider will help establish realistic goals and monitor your progress over time.
Can Skinny Shot help if I have tried diets before?
Previous difficulty losing weight does not automatically mean that medication will or will not be appropriate.
Your weight-loss history is useful information because it helps your provider understand what you have tried, what was difficult to maintain, and what factors may have affected your progress. A medical evaluation can then determine whether prescription treatment or another approach is reasonable to consider.
Do I still need to watch what I eat while using weight-loss medication?
Yes. Prescription weight-management medication is intended to work alongside appropriate nutrition and physical activity rather than replace them.
FDA-approved medications for chronic weight management are approved for use in conjunction with reduced-calorie eating and increased physical activity.
